Japanese Xbox 360 Games Generated $2.1bn Sales To Date

Japanese Xbox 360 GamesTOKYO (Dow Jones) - Microsoft Corp, said Thursday that the cumulative retail sales generated to date by Japanese Xbox 360 games have topped 2.1 billion dollars, more than double the figure two years ago.

"Global sales of Japanese - published games on the Xbox 360 continue to be impressive," said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president for Microsoft Game Studios, at the annual Tokyo Game Show. He added that the Xbox 360 is a platform to bring Japanese game developers' talents to the global market.

Microsoft has been aggressively promoting its video game system in Japan, where its market presence is relatively small in comparison to its strength in the U.S. and Europe.

At the Tokyo Game Show, the company also unveiled five new games by Japanese creators that can be played on the new Kinect motion - sensor gaming accessory. Kinect - to be launched Nov. 4 in the U.S. and Nov. 20 in Japan, uses camera and sensor technology that allows users to play Japanese Xbox 360 games with gestures and verbal commands, without any physical controllers.
